Leadership Course

Open to students in grade 10-12, the LAUNCH Leadership Course has been developed to meet the expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education grade 11 course “Leadership and Peer Support - GPP3O” and is accredited through our partner: Cornerstone Montessori Prep School in Toronto.  This blended course (including both on-line and in person components) runs the full school year with six in-class Saturdays from September to June.

Taught from a Christian perspective, this course will increase students’ awareness of community needs and stimulate growth in leadership and self-awareness. Students will learn to make connections between their unique gifts and abilities, and the needs of their community. Students will gain skills in casting vision, teamwork and team building, goal setting, decision-making, communication and conflict management. They will put these skills into action as they design a community impact project or come alongside an existing project in a significant way. Students will be matched with a trained coach who will meet with them once a month, helping the student to LAUNCH their community project.

Units of Study:

Unit One: Who Am I As A Leader?

Students take self-assessments, complete self-reflection activities and investigate the needs of the community around them. Through this learning they create a Personal Growth Plan.

Unit Two:  Vision and Strategy

Students learn about casting vision, goal-setting and decision making, and use these skills to create a Project Strategic Plan.

Unit Three: Team Building and Communication

Students learn positive conflict resolution communication skills and how to build and lead an effective team.

On-line Components:

Throughout the course, students interact with the on-line Classroom, submitting regular reflection journal entries that support the current unit of study.  Using our myLAUNCHtools.com website, students take our 360 Assessments on leadership and teamwork.  This website hosts our goal setting and decision making tools, which students will use to set goals, create action steps and learn to make confident decisions. At the end of each class, students will be given a Unit Assignment related to the in-class material that will help the students build toward their final community impact project.

In-Class Days:

As we run our course over the full school year, our in-class instructional days are six Saturdays spread out from September to June.  These fun and interactive in-class days help to bring the course material to life.  They run from 10am to 4pm at our partner school: Cornerstone Montessori Prep School – Toronto location.  Attendance is mandatory at these in-class days as required by the Ministry of Education.
